playing with parts

Frame: 1995 Fat Chance Titanium (TFM 006)

I took the Marzzochi Bomber out which looked to massive and the time beeing the Pace looks better.

Headset: Chris King no name
Stem: Control Tech for now but will be replaced by a custom Moots (customized by Kish)
Handlebar: Fybrelyte for now but will be replaced by a Titanium Kolo flat bar
Grips: not available yet but i would like to use some OURY grips

Brakes: Shimano XTR M900
Brake Pads: Shimano XTR M900
Brake Levers/Shifters: Shimano XTR STI M900

Front Derailleur: Shimano XTR M900
Rear Derailleur: Shimano XTR M900
Cassette: Shimano XTR M900 Titanium (very light!)
Chain: not available yet
Cranks: Cook Bros RSR
Chainrings: not available yet
Bottom Bracket: Syncros Titanium
Pedals: Onza HO Titanium

Hub Skewers: Cook Bros
Rims: Mavic 517 Ceramic
Hubs: Chris Kind classic hubs in pewter (RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR) but not in yet, will take a couple of weeks
Spokes: DT revolution
Tyres: Tioga Spycho II in amber

Saddle: Flight titanium
Seatpost: Syncros Titanium
Seatpost Binder: Ringle but i also have a NOS Cook Bros which would look nice icw the Skewers but i have to look it up.

Weight: no clue what so ever but it feels light right now

Some of these parts were intended for the Serotta TiMax but i want to move some parts over
Today i have bought a silver Paul front derrailleur and i still have a silver rear Paul so i will use these for the Serotta build.
I do not want to use them on the Fat because the fat will be the rider of the 2 and i just trust the M900 gear more in action.
And because i like the look of complete groups i will be using the STI's on the Fat and move the Paul Thumbies to the Serotta.
Now i have to find some Paul levers to complete that.
With regards to the brakes on the Serotta i want to use the NOS Control Tech cantis i have available.
I have been thinking about Onza Hola's or Onza Ho's bt these CT's are just more special and will look good on the Black and White build, completed with the Syncros Revolution cranks.

Fats and Small update

Just a small update about the Fat
I now have the Quick releases in order, these are now the pretty Cook Bros Rq's,..for the front and the rear wheel, and the seatpost clamp
The crank is also a Cook Bros, and RSR which is the type with the CNC-ed rear side of the arm so save weight.
The cranks i have hade from new back in '94 I think
Originally they had the brand name edged in the arms but faded away trough the year and use.
It is still there only not that good visable, but that's fine with me.

Got a message from Rody that the decals have been shipped so in a week or so i will be able to put them back on.

I think it will take another week or 2 before before I can put the peddle to the metal
keep you guys updated ;)

Mountain Goat Whiskeytown Racer finally at home,..

Today i got my Mountain Goat Whiskeytown racer
It's a really nice frame, Black with orange panels and new decals and yellow splatter like we know from Mountain Goat
Obviously i couldn't wait to build this one right way with some parts that i had ready to be used.
I do not like the stem and the grips, also i thought that the Brooks would look good but i do not like it.
It's an early 90's Goat so therefore i am using the XT M732/735 parts in combination with some other period correct parts.
My main issue is that the bike could be to small for me.
The seatpost is long enough but i am 182cm tall and not a lightweight,.. :$
I might want to build this one for my GF, maybe she can use it, on the other hand she also has got the Nuke Proof titanium so i might have to go and use it myself, atleast try it

Parts:
- Shimano XT M735 hubed wheelset with Araya rims and DT spokes
- Shimano XT M732 Thumbies
- Shimano XT M735 rear and front derrailleur
- Shimano XT M735 cantibrakes
- DiaComp 005 Levers
- Stronglight headset
- Cook Bros RSR cranks
- IRC Seatpost
- Brooks Swift saddle (it is going to be replaced)
- Rock Shox Mag 21 fork

the Serotta rebuild story

I have mentioned this already a couple of times but hereby i want to tell the complete, but short, story

Back in '95 or so I bought a Serotta ATX at Kapteijn Tweewielers in Amsterdam replacing my PEARSON custom.
It was my pride and joy,..rode the bike all over the place, numerous competitions, al lot of trips to my work.
I equipted the ATX with Spinergy wheels, Cook Bros RSR cranks, Paul rear mech, XTR front Mech, Magura's,USE Seatpost etc,..
During the competitions runs it was an impressive ride, i tried a couple of other bikes but none drove as good as the serotta, fitted like a glove.

After a couple of years i wanted to convert her into a single speed, in the meantime a collected some other bikes so the Serotta wasn't used that much so i wanted give her a second life. Replacing the Pace with the Tange swichblade, brakes by Onza V-brakes

When i made the first testdrive i noticed something strange,..my seatpost slide down,.. :$
After checking what the reason for this was i unfortunately discovered a crack in the seattube

Because i bought the frame new from the dealer with a lifetime quaranty i went back to the dealer.
He told me that this was bad luck, the importer went bankrupt in the meantime so he couldn't do anything for me except throwing the frame away for me.
I didn't accept this and contacted Serotta myself.

Serotta gave me a return number and i could send it back , and after a investigation they could inform me if this crack would be a quaranty issue.
I took the frame apart and made some last pictures because there was a chance that the frame was not going to get shipped back.

After a couple of weeks Serotta made me very happy by informing me that the seattube was going to be replaced under warranty.
Because i had to pay the shipping costs to the factory myself they offered me a paint scheme upgrade, i now could choose a two colour scheme instead of the single colour it used to be.
After making a lot of different colour options i went for Onyx black faded to candy apple read with white logo's.
I was after a slick look but still some retro look and feel.

During the rebuild process Serotta kept me informed by sending me pictures of the replcement.
There are some real welding artists working there,..so impressive!
First the cut the cracked tube out

and they put the new one in

I requested Serotta if they could remove the canti studsand add some discbrake pads but they didn't design this frame for disc and couldn't do that, but the put an extra cable stop on the top tube to make it V-brake compatible.
Hereby a picture after the paint job,..my god,..sooooooo pretty

In the meantime i was starting to buy the new parts, which was not simple i can tell you, the parts i was looking for had to be red, in very good order, and from a specialist brand and time period correct.
Apart from the colour, the quality had to be outstanding.
I have a soft spot for Paul so i wanted to put as much as red paul parts on.
The result is impressive,..if i might say myself,..it is a gorgeous bike, and stepping back on the serotta after such a long time felt like coming home after a long time,..felt great.

The sort of finished 2nd Nuke Proof project

Last time i showed the AMP fork in the Nuke proof but for some reason i didn't like to look of that.
I wanted something different

On the local Marktplaats I found something really really special; a Manitou 3 Disk

This fork is brandnew, only put in a bike once for a showbike from the SACHS factory.
Sachs was the first with a working production disk brake called the powerdisk

It came complete with the front wheen and Sachs New Success hub.
I have never seen anything like this before, but that hub is soooooo pretty and it runs forever if you give it a swing
Because i like matching parts i started looking for a matching rear hub but ended finding a complete nos Sachs new Success group,..absolutely gorgeous, a bit heavy but looks like bullet proof like me.
Also visualy it looks great icw the blue of the Nuke Proof Decals.

the bike now got:
Frame: Nuke Proof Titanium made by Litespeed ; former Team Brooklyn bike

Fork: Manitou 3 Disc

Headset: Chris King
Stem: Nuke Proof
Handlebar: Nuke Proof
Grips: Sachs
Barends: None, looking for Nuke Proof

Brake Cables: Sachs and Shimano
Cantilever cable hangers: Suntour at the back
Brake Levers: Sachs

And back again,..on different levels

Yes I know, it has been a while since my last post.
The last post was about the Nuke Proof that got stolen,..and I am back now,..it has surfaced again :) YEAH!

A few weeks back, on a sunday, I got a phone call from a bike friend that my Nuke Proof was offered on the local internet Market (marktplaats) site.
We decided that he was going after it right away,..Roy went there and bought the bike back for a small part of the actual value.
Roy said that if he felt that it was the actual thief , he would have picked it up without paying but he did not have the impression that it was.
When he gave the seller the money he informed him that the bike was stolen and that shocked the seller (although his story was a bit,..naaaaah,....not straight)
but at the end, i got my favorite bike back :)

He bike was still in a perfect condition, the only thing is, all NUKE PROOF decals were removed, but that is fine, new once are on their way.

When it got stolen last September, I totally lost the passion for the bikes, but with the return of the stolen NP I got it back !
It will never be the same as before, I have a few ventures since a couple of months so I now spend my money on other things but the NP will get a second life.
I will make this one my hardcore racer and upgrade the frame/bike to a new level.

Changes that will be made:
- The Paul canto brakes will be replaced by Control Tech Canti's
- The M900 shifter/lever combo will be replaced by XT or Paul Thumbies icw red Chicken Stix levers
- The Suspension fork will be replaced by a Steel or Ti Rigid fork
- The XTR Cranks will be replaced by Syncros revolution or Cook Bros RSR cranks
- The Rond wheel set by Chris King Classic Hubed wheels
- The Seatpost and Stem by Moots Ti hardware
and then I will look for some detailing

but I want to ride it soon again :)
